Getting Unstuck: Feeling the Fear and Doing It Anyway

I didn’t want to write this blog post.

At least not yet.  I wanted to be more prepared.  I planned to be wittier and more compelling. I wanted to put words together in such a way people would sigh and say “Now That was good.”

Although confident I had something to say, I worried the thoughts and ideas in my head wouldn’t translate well on paper.

I worried people wouldn’t get me.

Eventually I realized I was just procrastinating.

So what if I wasn’t perfect–who is?

Trying something new can be challenging.

It can be hard work but isn’t it worth it?  Hard work isn’t the same as struggle.  When you are doing something you love you  work hard because you want to.  It may even feel a lot like play.  It could possibly be so exciting you just can’t put it down.

Occasionally you may have to remind yourself that your goal is worth it.

When discouraged we often return to old habits.  No natter how dissatisfied you may be with your present situation, it is at least familiar.  You have the map.  You know where to go and what to do.  A new path is unexplored.  Untraveled but worth the journey.

Take a chance.

Maybe you’ll fall flat on your face.  Maybe you’ll fly.  If you stumble, hopefully you’ll  pick yourself up, correct your course and continue on.

What are you yearning to do?

Make a plan, set some goals and get started.  If you’re concerned about the amount of time it will take, remember time is going to pass anyway.  How would you like to spend it?

The truth is there is rarely a perfect time to start something new.

I certainly didn’t feel ready to write my first blog post but I was challenged to, so here it is.  I haven’t done a refresher on  sentence structure.  I haven’t studied the entire list of top Personal Development websites.  They are both on my To Do list so I’m sure I’ll get them done.  I suspect this will make me a better blogger but not perfect.  I do intend to be the best I can be.  This blog and I are a work in progress.  Sometimes you have to begin before you feel ready.

It always helps to have some support

Share your goals with people in your life who are positive and supportive.  Join online groups with a community of positive people with similar interests.  Consider getting a life coach. Read inspiring books related to what you want to do.  Audio books are perfect to listen to in the car or on public transportation if you have a long commute.

As for me, I will continue to challenge myself, set more goals and see where they take me

What about you?  What do you want to do with your life?

Have you set goals?

What keeps you positive and motivated?
